Steven Dearing Featured in VoyageMichigan’s Daily Inspiration Series

The Dearing Concert Duo is honored to share that Steven Dearing has been featured in VoyageMichigan’s Daily Inspiration series, a long-form interview that appears in the publication’s Inspiring Stories section. The piece went live on April 21, 2026, and is currently featured on the VoyageMichigan homepage.

The interview traces Steven’s path from a self-taught electric guitarist at age 16 — through two years of chemistry studies, a pivot to formal music education, and Master of Music work on full scholarship at Wayne State University — to the founding of the Dearing Concert Duo with soprano and flutist Abha Dearing. The piece covers the Duo’s first recording with engineer Bruce Gigax in Cleveland, their tours across the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada, and the four critically acclaimed albums that followed.

Asked what he finds most rewarding, Steven pointed to three constants in the Dearings’ work: seeing students progress, performing together as a married duo, and “doing music and music only for a living.” That ethos — classical music as daily discipline and shared vocation — has shaped the Duo’s 25+ years of concert work, 500+ wedding ceremonies, six Detroit Music Awards, and their European concert debut at the Cheltenham International Music Festival.
