Our commitment
The Dearing Concert Duo is committed to making this website usable by the widest possible audience, including visitors with disabilities. We design and develop with accessibility in mind from the start, not as an afterthought.
Standard we follow
This site is built to conform with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA. We test against this standard during every site update.
Built-in accessibility features
Accessibility toolbar
An on-site accessibility toolbar is available on every page. Look for the circular accessibility icon at the bottom-left of the screen. It lets you:
- Increase or decrease text size
- Switch to a high-contrast color scheme
- Apply a grayscale view to reduce visual noise
- Reset all visual preferences with one click
Keyboard support
- Every interactive element (links, buttons, form fields, menus) is reachable with the Tab key.
- A “Skip to main content” link is the first focusable element on every page.
- Visible focus outlines (gold, 2px) appear on every focused element.
- The mobile menu and customize dialog respect the Escape key to close.
Screen-reader support
- Semantic HTML5 landmarks (
header, nav, main, footer, aside) are used throughout. - All informational images have descriptive alt text.
- Decorative images are marked with empty alt attributes so screen readers skip them.
- Form fields have associated labels and ARIA descriptions where helpful.
- Buttons that open menus or dialogs use
aria-expandedandaria-controls.
Visual design
- Body text is set at a minimum of 16 px to support readers who rely on default browser zoom.
- Color contrast meets or exceeds the WCAG AA threshold (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text). Our primary text-on-background pairings test at AAA.
- Touch targets on interactive controls are at least 44 × 44 pixels.
- The site does not auto-play audio or video, and respects the operating system’s
prefers-reduced-motionsetting (animations are disabled or simplified for visitors who prefer reduced motion). - The viewport supports pinch-to-zoom and respects user-set browser font sizes — we never disable zoom.
Content structure
- Each page has a single, descriptive H1.
- Heading levels (H1 > H2 > H3) are not skipped, so the document outline is meaningful to assistive technology.
- Links use descriptive text rather than “click here.”
- Tables include header cells and captions where appropriate.
Known limitations
We test against WCAG 2.2 AA continuously, but every site has edge cases. If you find a barrier that prevents you from using this site, please tell us — we treat accessibility issues as bugs and prioritize them.
Embedded third-party content (YouTube videos, Google Maps, social embeds) is governed by those providers’ own accessibility settings. We choose providers and embed methods that minimize barriers (for example, YouTube videos use the youtube-nocookie embed and respect captions when available).
Browsers and assistive technology
The site is tested with the latest two versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge on desktop and mobile. It is tested with VoiceOver on iOS and macOS, TalkBack on Android, and NVDA on Windows. If you use a different combination and run into trouble, please let us know so we can test it.
