Steven Dearing's debut solo recording — 2010
Recorded 7/16/2010, July Recital is Steven Dearing's debut solo recording. The album surveys 20th-century classical guitar literature with works by Roland Dyens, Alexandre Tansman, Lennox Berkeley, and Federico Moreno Torroba.
While the duo's three Detroit Music Award-winning recordings spotlight Steven and Abha together, July Recital is Steven alone — and it received critical attention across North America from Mark Stryker (Detroit Free Press) and George Bulanda (Hour Detroit) among others.
Featured composers
- Roland Dyens — French classical guitar composer and arranger; works with strong jazz and Brazilian inflections
- Alexandre Tansman — Polish-French composer; idiomatic, lyrical works for guitar
- Lennox Berkeley — English composer; austere, formally elegant guitar literature
- Federico Moreno Torroba — Spanish composer; works central to the modern guitar repertoire
